Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis

People seek psychotherapy for many different reasons. Some come because anxiety or depression has become difficult to live with. Others find themselves repeating the same painful patterns in relationships, work, or their sense of themselves. Sometimes there is no single problem to identify, only the feeling that life has become constrained or that something important remains out of reach.

While relief from suffering is an important part of treatment, psychotherapy can also offer an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply. Our ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to others develop over a lifetime, often outside of awareness. By approaching these patterns with curiosity rather than judgment, it becomes possible to see them more clearly and to discover new ways of responding to life's challenges.

I provide psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for adults in Folsom, California, serving patients throughout the Sacramento region. Treatment is individualized and develops through careful attention to your unique experience rather than through a predetermined set of techniques. Some people begin therapy with a clear understanding of what they hope to address; others arrive with only the sense that something is not quite right. Both are welcome starting points.

Reasons People Seek Therapy

People may begin psychotherapy because of anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, major life changes, conflict at work, difficulty managing anger or a persistent sense of feeling stuck.

The concern that brings someone into treatment is important, but it may not tell the whole story. Over time, the work can make room for a fuller understanding of the experiences, relationships, and patterns connected to that concern.
